Full Moon Eclipse October 17, 2005

Full Moon Eclipse 24:14 Aries Moon/Libra Sun

October 17, 2005
Some full moons are bigger than others just as some eclipses are bigger than others. Under the influence of full moons, particularly coupled with eclipses, we are illuminated and learn about ourselves, our relationships and our world. The full moon eclipse occurring Monday, October 17, 2005 is beyond enormous in its scope. Aside from being awed by the energy inherent in it, I noticed it also has echoes back and forth across time and our lives. While this column normally analyzes the lunation in detail, I’d like to take a slightly different approach and ask you to time travel with me. The point of astrology is to understand what we are facing by studying the energies of the cosmos. The eclipse has particularly strong emotional roots, deeply embedded in each of our individual souls as well as the world’s soul. The question posed to all of us, at this crossroads in time and space, is what do you want to do about those emotional roots?
I want you to go cast a chart for October of 1982 and look at the outer planets placements by degree and signs. We are going to compare 1982’s planets to the eclipse full moon occuring in October 2005. In October 1982, Saturn and Pluto were at 27 Libra, Neptune was at 25 Sagitarius, Chiron at 26 Taurus, Uranus at 3 Sagittarius, and Jupiter was at 18 Scorpio. Notice how the degrees from 1982 are active NOW, in 2005, WITH DIFFERENT PLANETS IN THE SAME SIGNS and DEGREES! To help you see it clearly, get a piece of paper and write October 1982’s Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron planets and degrees down. Change ink colors and write October 2005‘s Mars, Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron next to the corresponding signs/degrees.
Degree 1982 2005
26 Libra Saturn Sun
27 Libra Pluto Jupiter
27 Capricorn Chiron
10 Leo Saturn
18 Scorpio Jupiter
14 Aquarius Neptune
26 Taurus Chiron Mars
3 Sagittarius Uranus
7 Pisces Uranus
25 Sagittarius Neptune Pluto
In Fall 1982 and during most of 1983, as Saturn and Pluto danced back and forth over the last degrees of Libra, there was an exceptionally important karmic relationship which may have ended, betrayed you, demanded you compromise, sacrifice or some how changed you profoundly. Do you remember what the relationship was? Look at your Libra house for an idea. During 1982/83, you made deep, soul changing decisions and commitments due to a profound experience and possible wounding from the Finger of God made with Chiron in Taurus as the apex, aspecting Saturn/Pluto and Neptune’s sextile. In most cases, people chose the Neptune in Sagitarius part of the Finger of God, as it was the “easier” of the energies to handle. Freedom came via a Neptune fog of escaping or tears so Freedom from was the illusion most people opted for and “chose“. But, as with all things Neptune, there were deeper, subtler ties that have held your soul in place. Deep emotional roots were ties to your very soul. Reacting Against is actually the same as Moving Toward ~ just opposite steps and parts of a cosmic dance. You are still dancing regardless of how you move! Or perhaps you chose the Chiron in Taurus leg of the Yod and were wounded via your need for security via the quality of rock, solid earth energy. Or maybe Pluto/Saturn in Libra appealed to you, so the bonds and commitments made, even if they were based on an unusual mix of fear and love, were to resolve or recreate old karmic ties that ached for connection.
The point of our full moon column is to ask you to reflect back on your decisions from Fall 1982 to Fall 1983. Yods are exceptionally difficult energies to handle as they ask us to become conscious with the unbelievable dynamic tension of a sling shot aimed at the most sensitive parts of our body. It is 23 years later. You are wiser now. You’ve got 23 years of life under your belt. You did the best you could, with your wisdom level, at that time. Now, in 2005, it is time to revisit the planetary and emotional commitments and decisions you made in 1982/83.
Next, replace the planets in the Yod from 1982 with the Yod occuring on this fall’s eclipse. Libra Sun/Jupiter replaces Saturn/Pluto in Libra, Mars in Taurus replaces Chiron in Taurus, and Pluto in Sagittarius replaces Neptune in Sagittarius. The planetary replacements, suggest you are able to take action, maybe only small baby steps, but action nonetheless, as Mars in Taurus is a slow and steady mover towards its goals. The replacements suggest you are able to see your role in the partnership of the Saturn/Pluto aspect with the gentleness, wisdom and compassion of Jupiter/Sun in Libra. Sun/Jupiter are marvelous planets and suggest consciousness, abundance and healing around the old Saturn/Pluto energies of fear, loss, humiliation and power plays. The replacements suggest you are willing to transform using Pluto your Neptunian illusions about freedom or slavery.
Perhaps most importantly, Pluto in Sagittarius moved to take the position of Neptune in 1982. Pluto always wants us to change, transform, recreate, fertilize, and evolve either the easy or the hard way. With Neptune in Sagitarius, we believe in the illusion of freedom, mountain tops, justice, tribes, passion and travel. We are like Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ, searching for a way back to Kansas for days, not realizing we had the power on our feet in those ruby red slippers the entire journey. As we just learned, our 1982 Finger of God with Chiron, Pluto/Saturn and Neptune is echoed by degrees and signs with our 2005 Finger of God with Mars, Sun/Jupiter and Pluto. Consciousness beckons!
Now, for more of the aspects of change! Squares are aspects which give an impetus or push towards growth. Add in Capricorn Chiron in the last degrees of the cardinal signs squaring the Sun/Jupiter or Saturn/Pluto in Libra. Chiron squaring the authority planets suggests you are able to move beyond your wounding/fear state and become your own authority. Examine the impact of the current Pisces Uranus as it squares 1982 Uranus in Sagitarius ~ the universal, spiritual connection with the human tribe versus the separation, differentness and foreigness of the various human tribes. Aren’t you much more aware of how connected we all are on this small rock spinning around our sun every 365 days? 2005 Neptune in Aquarius squares Jupiter in Scorpio‘s 1982 placement suggesting the relationship pain from 1982 is dissolved via your new understanding of humanity, family and friends connections.
Do you understand WHY you made the decisions you did in 1982. DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE YOUR DECISIONS?
Mars in Taurus is dancing over 1982 Chiron in Taurus, suggesting a revision, replacing, smoothing out or perhaps a movement to fill the earth based, hurting trenches dug deep into your soul in 1982. I always marvel at how hundred year old battlefields have the mounds and trenches where men died fighting for a belief or cause rippling across the surface of now peaceful fields. Earth doesn’t move with out help. The trenches remain where they were dug so many years ago. Now, Mars in Taurus can help you fill in the trenches left in your soul from the battleground of 1982/83. But they will be filled in ONLY if you want to do the work and fill them in! You have to pick up a shovel and move the dirt! Take shovels of earth from the mounded walls and put it into the foxhole trenches. Mother Nature will give the land grass and flowers by next Spring. But YOU have to move the earth before it freezes for the winter and while it is still moist and maleable. You can put a circle of stones where the protective mound used to be. The stones will mark the place on your soul where blood was spilled as a quiet memorial, a grave stone, a totem of sorts. Or you can leave the site unmarked and keep it a private relationship between you, the heavens and earth. Future visitors to the battleground will only know what happened if you tell them. You will never forget it. But you are now able to move on from that time, from that battleground of your soul. Don‘t you want to move on? Don’t you have a different vision of what you’d like in your life, in your world, in our world?
Bernadette Brady, in The Eagle and The Lark, describes the New Moon eclipse two weeks ago as: The immense power anger and force of the Mars square aspect to Pluto is channeled into this family of eclipses. The individual experiencing this series will find that huge obstacles will suddenly and easily clear OR, on the negative side, a pending potential crisis will suddenly manifest and move through his or her life very rapidly. Either way, the individual will feel that everything is moving at great speed. Ms Brady describes the Full Moon Eclipse as: This family of eclipses is concerned with the individual’s relationship to father figures, authority figures or the need to take responsibility and control. This is a time to accept the commitments that are presented, commitments which could occur due to another person’s illness or another person’s unreliability.
Lynda Hills’ interpretations of the Sabian Symbols for the eclipse full moon are, as usual, profound. 25 Libra finds our Solar energy experiencing THE SIGHT OF AN AUTUMN LEAF BRINGS TO A PILGRIM THE SUDDEN REVELATION OF THE MYSTERY OF LIFE AND DEATH.
Commentary: ‘The Sight of an Autumn Leaf Brings to a Pilgrim the Sudden Revelation of the Mystery of Life and Death’ is an image of someone having the ability to see much more in the simple things around them than most people ever notice. A ‘Pilgrim’ is a traveler, a voyager-someone who’s on a journey. Often the ‘Pilgrim’s’ journey is a spiritual trek or a trip to increase the level of experience and understanding. The ‘Sudden Revelation of the Mystery of Life and Death’ shows that the person on the journey pictured here is able to look at the smallest and sometimes most fleeting things and find layers and layers of meaning that others would probably not ever realize.
Oracle: This Symbol can indicate an insight into something that can change the course of one’s life. The ‘Autumn Leaf’ in this Symbol brings to the ‘Pilgrim’ the sudden understanding of the cycle of life, death and rebirth. The ‘Mystery of Life’ seems to unfold before the ‘Pilgrim’s’ inner vision. The ‘Pilgrim’ can see that the seed has grown into the tree and the tree’s leaves have now fallen with the change of the seasons, ready for the new birth in the spring. The ‘Autumn Leaf’ becomes the composted material that nourishes the new seeds and fosters and nourishes the new growth. Often we go through our lives without noticing the information that can be gained from looking at small or seemingly insignificant things. The ‘Revelation’ that is experienced can change one’s life, if time is taken to stop long enough to really look into it. At this point, you may feel that you’ve learnt much and grown tired of seeking information for life’s meaning through more conventional channels. Look for the answer to your problem in simple, everyday moments. They are fleeting, but they are around you. Look for the signs, they can have profound effects.
Keywords: Seasonal adjustments. Fleeting inspiration. Seeing things in their own time. Spiritual revelations. Conversations with God. Feeling blessed. The beauty and timelessness of nature. Contacts with nature spirits. Angelic visions. Photography and having a photographic mind. Being here now. Pilgrims and their journeys. The Hadj pilgrimage. Solving problems. Quick and deep minds. Snapshots in time.
The Caution: Focusing on things that have no lasting value or are no longer relevant. Looking for answers in everything, therefore missing out on the big picture that’s right in front of you. Making a big deal out of insignificant or everyday occurrences.

The Sabian Image for our 25 Aries emotional moon and lunar nature is:
A DOUBLE PROMISE REVEALS ITS INNER AND OUTER MEANINGS.
Commentary: ‘A Double Promise Reveals its Inner and Outer Meanings’ implies that what may at first have appeared to be simple will probably end up being more complicated than was first imagined. Things may look great on the outside, but internally there could be complications that should be considered. There may need to be an honest appraisal of what was actually said, thought or ‘Promised’, and what is really possible in the real world.
Oracle: It may seem as though there are so many possibilities coming that could change your life on many levels, but ‘Promises’ are often more complicated than we initially think. Is this a situation with integrity or is it laced with duplicity? Look carefully at any ‘Promises’, or outcomes, that were assured or perhaps assumed in this situation. Did you expect more than was actually delivered? One’s rational understanding and emotional desires and responses can often conflict with each other. Consider the effects of the ‘Promise’ on all levels of your being. What comprehension, thoughts and emotions do you have surrounding what was said or implied? This Symbol often indicates a choice that arises between the heart and doing what you want to do and social obligation and knowing what’s right. There is much to be realized and learnt from the situation that has led you to the Oracle. There may be a need to draw another Symbol to get further information, to clarify and refine your direction.
Keywords: Rewards, but what do they bring with them? The possible implications of or reasons for any promises. Something that may look good on the outside, but prove to be difficult. Looking for consensus. Possibilities and promises. The ins and outs of situations. Not turning up.
The Caution: Fickleness, insincerity and two-facedness in human relationships. Expectations without clarification. Reversals of decisions or promises. Duplicity. Manipulating people in order to achieve outcomes. Promising more than can be delivered.

I watch for images and quotes before I sit down to write the monthly full moon column. This quote below appeared in a signature in a recent email and seemed to sum up the imagery of the eclipse in a very profound way for me:
“Dispossessed, landless, this and that-less and free, therefore, to go anywhere and say anything and be everything if we’d only know it once and for all. Simply slip into the power, into the powerful power hanging unrecognized in the back-hall closet.”
~Toni Cade-Bambara, The Salt Eaters
I wish you a profound understanding of your life’s journey at this moment at our crossroads of consciousness in time and space.
