We can expect SO MUCH activity in our world over the next few weeks, I can’t even stand it! These are the times Astrologers simply live for! Saturn is going to oppose Neptune! Pass 1! When the big boys dance in the heavens, major, Major, MAJOR things happen! Saturn and Neptune joined back in 1989 ~ officially starting the cyclical dance we are experiencing the opposition in now. Google to look at all the society structures that shifted, changed, dissolved, or began, seeded and started in 1989! They and new ones we can’t even imagine will transform over the next few weeks and through June of next year!
There are few planets Saturn has more “trouble” with than Neptune. Our favorite Lord of Material boundaries, barriers, structures, stones, foundations, authorities, and organizations slowly, resolutely and irrevocably loses it and dissolves, dissipates, and disappears when Neptune’s eroding quality flows or drips over him. Water, eventually, can erode or dissolve even the most apparently “solid” structures. One only has to look at New Orleans, a smooth river rock or the Grand Canyon to see the effect of Water on Stone or solid Material objects, if Water is given enough time.
Saturn opposing Neptune also has an ah-ha quality of the fog clearing, just for a second or two, before Neptune drifts back in to do more dissolving work. The king is dead, long live the king. Oppositions make us see thing clearly ~ face to face across the table. It is the time when seemingly impenetrable, solid, reliable things we’ve come to depend on reveal their structural weaknesses. The king is dead, long live the king. The structural beams sag. The cracks in a wall or leaks in your foundation appear. Your favorite pair of jeans split at the knees or up your butt ~ the stress points every place simply can‘t take it any more. Your favorite morning coffee cup falls apart in front of you as the teeny, tiny crack at the rim shatters down the cup to release hot coffee all over your counter. Leaks, leaks, and more leaks. You lose your crown to a piece of caramel. That funny sound in your engine was definitely bigger yesterday as you drove home and now your car won‘t start this morning. Stuff that’s been getting ready to go, give out, or fail, goes, gives out and fails. The king is dead, long live the king. With that in mind, back up your computer, make an extra copy of your important stuff, and tend to any things which are about to collapse or have been making menacing or worrisome sounds, behaviors or actions. Call the people you love and tell them you love them. Important structures and foundations in your life are going to change over the next few weeks. The king is dead, long live the king.
So, if we are going to watch Neptune help Saturn fall apart why am I so excited? Well, close on the collapse of all the seemingly impenetrable, immoveable, rigid, unbendable structures in our lives is the new, glorious construction, creative energy of Jupiter square Saturn through the end of October. When a giant oak tree falls in a forest, all the plants and baby trees huddled around the giant old tree, suddenly receive glorious, life affirming sun light, oodles of nutrients, and additional water to their roots. You, walking in the forest, come on an unexpected, beautifully lit clearing. As you gaze around, you notice an old tree, fallen and decaying in the midst of the clearing. The plants in the clearing are practically singing with joy as the sunlight bathes them with growing, expanding energy. The insects, birds, and forest critters have a new nest or food source in the slowly decaying tree. Squirrels frisk. Butterflies dance. Mushrooms and moss bloom. That smell of moist, juicy humid life coming from the tree is rich in the air as you poke at the log, seeing bugs scurry as the layers of the tree fall away in shards of rotting wood. The earth starts to reclaim the tree’s formerly solid trunk, providing new food to all others as she re-uses the dead trees nutrients to support life in her forest. The Lion King lyrics come to mind ~ that circle of life.
Now, most of the time, you come upon a tree fallen and decaying in a forest clearing. Over the next few weeks, you might get to watch a giant tree or two fall! And over the next year, as Saturn dances in opposition to Neptune, exact on February 28 and June 25, 2007 other giant trees may fall! How cool is that? Once every 37 years the aspect happens to make trees fall in the forest of your life and our world! You will be able to get out of the way, honest. You know astrology and will jump to safety. The giant tree creaks as it begins to fall. Hear the tree crash down, taking branches of other neighboring trees with it, carving a path of sun light the length of its entire trunk. Watch as the giant tree sends up dust, motes of sparkling bark, leaves and enormous life force energy up into the air as it creaks, sways and crashes to Mother Earth. Actually, the tree MIGHT not crash this week ~ but it will crash between now and next June. You will learn which tree will crash over the next year in the three or so weeks ahead.
Structures in your life will start to shift and dissolve over the next few weeks. You might have an old reliable tree or two start to fall in your life. You will be aware of trees falling in other peoples’ forests. It is time. You were aware these Saturn Neptune changes were coming, at least on soul level, for a while now. Help the process along by releasing, gently and with love, all the things that need to go now, fall now, or separate now. Welcome the sunlight clearing into your life. Now all the rest of your life will have more room to bloom and grow! Now, IF the old dying tree is physically in your backyard, has branches hanging over your house or is listing in your general direction, you might want to call a tree cutting down service so it doesn’t fall on your roof when it tips over. That tree is going to try to tip over between now and next June! You can help its process AND get nice logs for your winter fires from it. Or you can try to save your tree with nutrients and some wires for support like they did with that very, very old tree on the Monterey Coastline near Pebble Beach Golf Course.
A few of you wrote in about the Ganesh Mantra last week. This week I’d like to give you a Mantra for Saturn. It will soften and support the Saturn structural changes coming in the weeks ahead. It will help you Do Your Saturn in a tonal, healing and affirmative way. My source for the Mantras is “Healing Mantras” by Thomas Ashley-Farrand. Om Sri Shanaishwaraya Swaha is the Saturn mantra. It takes about 5 minutes to say it 108 times ~certainly you can fit it in a car or subway ride, during a shower or as you vacuum! Or during your daily meditation. You get the idea. Phonetically it sounds like “Om Shree Shahn-Ehsh-Wahr-Eye-Yah Swah-ha.” Translated: Om and Salutations to Saturn the Planet of Lessons. Chanting your Saturn!
On to our week ahead, full of changes as giant oak, maple, pine and redwood trees start to fall around us! We have a glorious new moon at 0 Virgo as our giant, whooshing see-saw of a t-square builds with Neptune and Saturn’s approach to their first exact opposition next week. Sun changes signs out of playful fun Leo (hasn’t the last month of your life been a complete laugh riot?) into hardworking, analytical and dedicated Virgo. Mercury after being picked on, yelled at, worried and irritated all last week, is in the mood to cause trouble as he pokes back and argues with Ceres, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, and Pluto right before he exits in a very over the top dramatic, shouting, door slamming, scene stealing Leo kind of way for quiet, hardworking, peaceful, organized, earthy Virgo at the end of the week. Venus squares Jupiter early in the week and moves to side with Saturn at week’s end as she opposes Neptune. Love is all we have

l of energy moving around! On top of it, Saturn and Neptune move toward their opposition as Pluto starts to pause and grind into his Station direct on September 5, 2006. Pluto is waking up last December’s memories as he moves forward again so expect last December‘s story to reappear on your doorstep or in your email reader! The next few weeks will be exceptionally profound in your life when you look back at age 95 from your rocking chair on the front porch with a lemonade in your hand. Take note of all that goes on! Astrology is about tracking life cycles, there are quite a few culminating, a few ending and of course, brand new ones beginning!
Monday, Mercury has HAD it, simply HAD it. He’s tired of being yelled at by everyone! He argues today with Ceres (dominant women), Neptune (chaos, lack of clarity and confusion) and gets firm within his OWN authority as he joins with Saturn and starts to issue his OWN orders. No more Mr. Agreeable Mercury! Enough with being the messenger of crazy gods! Leo Moon adds a dramatic flair of her own. In a while, after you calm down, you will tell the story over a beer or two and laugh at what went on. Right now, EVERYONE is a drama queen and on stage with a stirring Academy award winning monologue about their own needs, roles and positions on the matter. Everyone wants to be a star!
Tuesday Mercury has a spitting match with Mars ~ Mercury’s right and Mars is being a big old critical brat! Moon is still in Leo and WAY over the top in her emotions. However, right or wrong is IRRELEVANT; it is about getting the job done! You are arguing over things neither of you has any control over ~ kind of like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Structurally, the system is flawed or rotting from the inside out. You need to revise it, revision it, and move it into something a bit more manageable and functional. Don’t be afraid. Sun opposes Chiron by declination suggesting you know what you have to do, you simply need the courage the good Lord gave you to do it. Saturn will help. Do your work.
Wednesday, Sun finally leaves Leo and all the drama, 24/7 drama, to enter Virgo. Moon leaves Leo to enter Virgo too. Time to buckle down and execute! All the stuff last month was about grace and beauty and being attractive. Now, true work arrives. I know, you thought you were working last month! Well you were working but it wasn’t the REAL work, it was the drama, great appearance, ta-da, drum roll kind of work! Now comes the number crunching, spreadsheet, organized, get it done, cohesive and manifest in form and harvest the crops kind of work. Mercury opposes Pluto and joins with Pallas suggesting there ARE good roots to be found in the apparent Chaos and out of control nature of the energy. Find the roots! Also, we have a glorious new moon in Virgo. I love new moons in Virgo! The only problem with this new moon is Mercury is still in Leo so he’s doing the show and tell part more than the substance part. However, he’s approaching his trine to Pluto so no one actually notices. He’s got the power now baby! Behind the scenes is chaos but the appearances are fabulous, simply fabulous! You can fix it and clean it up later. Let the chaos sit, even if you lose something important with Mercury’s contraparallel to Neptune. I am reminded of Spielberg’s’ “Jaws”. They couldn’t get that mechanical shark to work, at all! They improvised and made a much more creative and scary movie. Same energy at work here. Improvise. It will be brilliant. Stop trying to get the mechanical shark to work! Film already!
Thursday through Saturn‘s day, I am not liking much. Virgo moon ~ just put your head down and work again. Chiron is arguing with Juno so partnerships are threatened and need adjustments ~ towards service not crowd pleasing. Mercury perfects his trine to Pluto in fire signs ~ there can be a bit of a fiery argument or message. Pallas is stationing direct at 0 Capricorn ~ this is almost worse than Mercury retrograde as Pallas rules the structure and strategy of things. However, she IS going direct so the chaos resolves starting now, after she gets her bearings. Saturn opposes Ceres ~ here is the critical moment when you realize which tree is going to fall in the forest. To mom Earth, it is all part and parcel of the process and circle of life. However, to our individual egos, it is US! We ARE the tree!! Or, rather, we THINK we are the tree.
Friday, Uranus is irritated and wants a divorce from seemingly solid partnerships! It was a choice made in haste perhaps? You never know what goes on behind closed doors. Moon in Virgo says put your head down and work hard. Pitch out things in your life that don’t matter so much to you any more. Make room. Have the tree service cut a couple branches off the dying tree in your backyard ~ at least the ones hanging over your roof.
Saturday, Venus joins with Saturn as she opposes Ceres. The tree cutting down guy tells you the tree is done for and suggests you cut it down before it falls on your house! Now, IF a tree falls in the forest, it doesn’t much matter to you. Forest is forest. Go Nature! However, IF the tree is in YOUR back yard AND you truly, truly love that tree, still see lots of good branches on YOUR TREE, go hire a fabulous gardening service and provide your tree with nutrients and take actions to prune off the decaying parts before they take over and kill your tree. It is decision time. Cut the tree down or try and save it. However, you are definitely going to have to take a couple of the branches off if you want to save it. Your call. Your tree. Moon is in Libra ~ the beauty of your tree suddenly strikes you in a way it never had before.
Sunday, Venus joins with Saturn by parallel ~ If you want to try to save the tree, go for it, with absolutely ALL the gusto you posses. Venus opposes Neptune today ~ dreams can come true. If you decide the tree must come down, you have a bit more time, if you’d like it, to enjoy your tree ~ through the end of next June actually. Mercury enters Virgo so get busy, whatever you decide. Call the gardening service. Get a price on all your options ~saving and cutting it down. Have a good night’s sleep and dream of a lush forest. Listen to what your tree tells you in your dream. Your tree has an opinion of what it would like! Moon in Libra trines Neptune ~ listen to your tree’s wishes! Go read “The Giving Tree” in the children’s section of your favorite bookstore. Do your Saturn.
Mundane: Russia’s economy started to collapse from her war in Afghanistan and the Berlin Wall fell at the conjunction of Neptune and Saturn in 1989. IF the Bush tax cuts EXPIRE and are NOT renewed, the USA deficit will ONLY be 1.6 TRILLION. The problem with “illion” endings is the only thing that seems to change is the letter in front: M, B, or Tr. However, there is a HUGE difference between Million, Billion and Trillion, which most of us, myself included, completely fail to comprehend! I only work with hundreds! As the seemingly boundary free, crazy, invasive, out of control, sole “Super” power in the world, I have a feeling the USA will start to feel the financial strain of that growing debt very soon. Our country’s tree of an economy will creak toward collapsing from our very expensive military excursions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Russia’s economy collapsed after a similar excursion in Afghanistan. Vlad Putin was certainly chuckling about some joke the rest of us weren’t in on, at the G-8 Summit. And, George did preside over numerous failed business operations before he was appointed President by our conservative Republican Supreme Court Judges. The Saudis bailed Bush out back when his oil business failed. However, I think he’s probably irritated quite a few of them by killing all the Muslim Terrorists, er Muslim people, in the Middle East. Besides, it is kind of tough to bail us out of 1.6 Trillion in debt.
On a more positiv
e note, a US Federal Judge put the kibosh on the illegal warrant-less NSA wire taps, saying that George and his buddies have to follow the rule of law. Warrant-less wiretaps violate the constitutional provisions of free speech, unreasonable search and seizure and break laws, including the FISA law. I anticipate many “World Leaders” and “Kings or Captains of Industry”, as they are all ruled by Saturn, leaving earth, being deposed or losing their power over next few weeks. Or we will find out their trees are not structurally sound any more. Additionally, we can anticipate structural collapses or tear downs of seemingly “solid” structures, like when the Berlin Wall was destroyed. (Perhaps the USA Republican party? Please Saturn! The king is dead; long live the people and rule of law!).
Finally, there will be a rather nasty or difficult communications snafu, satellite outage or computer internet virus going around, which your firewalls will NOT block, no matter HOW updated they are, so make a back up of all your important data RIGHT NOW! Today. Cell phones, PDAs, Blackberries and Treos too! And of course, my old favorite, bird flu! They found a bird flu strain in the USA in mute Swans. Did you think I’d forgotten about the bird flu?
And, last but certainly not least, we are restructuring our solar system and even changing the order of it ~ especially if the astronomers vote to add Ceres as a planet! Ceres is going to take her rightful place between Mars and Jupiter. I must say, I like that! Give the gals, Gaia Earth and Venus, a heavenly body in the form of the very firm, Creation Goddess Ceres who rules the seasons and grows the grains to help snap us human critters into shape and avert global warming!
I must admit, as an astrologer WELL aware of Pluto’s impact, I do have a bit of hesitation about downgrading him into an equal with Charon, his boatman across the River of Death! Or renaming him as a Pluton! Has anyone decided who is going to tell Pluto? I don’t want the job! Of course, IF your former man-servant is NOW your EQUAL that DOES bode well for the demise of kings, and elevation of all the little folk every where to spread freedom, liberty and equality across the globe. Take that you, authoritarian, control freak neo-cons! Pluto demoted (bye, bye, power over, catch ya later!) as Ceres is promoted to join Venus and Mom Earth and now the servants are the equals of a god and the king of the underworld! If the heavens are undergoing such cosmic realignment, think about what is going on in your chart and our world! Go get busy! Create!
The Saturn Neptune midpoint point in any chart is the spot so watch to see where the tree is going to crash, where the structure of our existence is going to shift. In the USA chart, Saturn/Neptune falls at 3 Libra, next to our Midheaven ~ Leader of the Free World, pride goeth before a fall, honor and the rule of law essential to our structure, Libra, fairness in administration, not the rule of the kings. Saturn/Neptune squares Venus at 3 Cancer in the 7th house ~ suggesting generosity and a desire to nurture, support and care for the other supports our country’s stability. I grow more and more convinced those founding fathers of ours elected the USA chart ~ it is so “what goes around comes around!” I have a feeling we are going to become just another country in the increasingly small green and blue globe we call earth. In George Bush’s chart, Saturn/Neptune is at 1 Virgo and equals his Sun/Jupiter point and falls in the second house! The new moon is RIGHT on his Saturn/ Neptune midpoint. The coming eclipses are in his second and eigth houses too. Saturn/Neptune falls in the second house of his and OUR money ~ watch for the USA dollar to drop or seriously collapse between now and the end of June next year. Get a fixed rate mortgage while you can! Pay down your debt quickly! When George (or we as a country) grab greedily for what he wants, he (and we as his people) are destroyed!
